Teaching the Craft of Poetry
Chryss is an advocate for using formal techniques to craft memorable poetry. A founding faculty member of the Santa Barbara Writers Conference Poetry Weekend, she was also part of the Teaching Poetry Conference held in Sonoma County. Chryss also offers one-on-one mentoring for emerging poets and writers. Interested?
Younger Poets
Music and Arts Conservatory
In cooperation with Santa Barbara's Poet Laureate Perie Longo, Chryss teaches poetry to gifted teens through the Granada's Music and Arts Conservatory.
California Poets in the Schools
The CPITS program brings professional poets into elementary school classrooms for 4-8 week fellowships. Chryss has worked at Isla Vista School, Hollister School, and Roosevelt Elementary School through the CPITS program.
Poetry Out Loud
Chryss has been a participating teacher and judge for the National Endowment for the Arts' Poetry Out Loud program. POL is a competive recitation contest for students, encouraging students to enjoy the sounds of language and poetry as an oral tradition.
